Students are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation, although limited support is likely for students from developing countries (e.g. Eastern Europe and Russia; China; India; Argentina).

Accommodation in Svalbard
We have booked 6 double rooms (12 students) and 8 triple rooms (24 students) at the Spitsbergen Guesthouse for the period 27 June (arrival) – 5 July (departure); this will include breakfast. Lecturers will stay at the Spitsbergen Guesthouse. This accommodation is typical for a student attending UNIS. The price of double rooms is 447.5 NOK (about 50 Euros) per person per night, and the price of triple rooms is 330 NOK (about 37 Euros) per person per night. These prices are very competitive for Norway.
When applying, students will be asked if they require double or triple occupancy rooms at the Spitsbergen Guesthouse. We will try to apportion students at Spitsbergen Guesthouse according to choice and country, with priority for cheaper triple rooms given to students from developing countries. Applicants with special needs should inform the organizer clicking the appropriate box. We will do our best to accommodate their needs.
If a student requires accommodation elsewhere they will have to find it themselves in Svalbard. Possible places to look for accommodation include:
A registration fee will be collected from accepted students that wish to take up booked accommodation at Spitsbergen GuestHouse. This will pay the accommodation costs for 8 days (27 June, arrival – 5 July, departure). This fee will be 3580 NOK (approximately 395 Euros) for double room occupants and 2640 NOK (approximately 290 Euros) for triple room occupants. Students will be advised how to make payment.
During the Summer School, lecturers/students will be expected to walk from the place of accommodation to UNIS (about 30 minutes walk). A map of Longyearbyen can be found here
Nearer the time of the Summer School we will provide information on transport in Svalbard, catering facilities during the Summer School and extra-school activities (e.g. trips). We suggest lecturers/students check this website regularly.
